Q345C Welded Steel Pipe Weight Chart: How to Estimate Order Tonnage

Estimating the weight of Q345C welded steel pipes is essential when preparing purchase orders, comparing supplier quotations and planning transportation. Since steel pipes are often purchased by metric ton, an accurate tonnage estimate helps buyers control procurement budgets and avoid ordering too much or too little material.

How to Calculate Steel Pipe Weight

For a circular steel pipe, the approximate theoretical weight per meter can be calculated using the following formula:

Weight (kg/m) = 0.02466 × t × (D − t)

Where:
- D = outside diameter in millimeters
- t = nominal wall thickness in millimeters

This formula provides an estimate based on steel density. Actual delivered weight may vary because of dimensional tolerances and manufacturing differences.

Example of Pipe Weight Calculation

Consider a Q345C welded steel pipe with an outside diameter of 219.1 mm and a wall thickness of 6 mm.

The estimated weight per meter is:

0.02466 × 6 × (219.1 − 6) ≈ 31.55 kg/m.

If the required pipe length is 6 meters, the theoretical weight per pipe is approximately 189.3 kg.

For an order of 100 pipes, the estimated total weight is approximately 18.93 metric tons.

How to Estimate Order Tonnage

Buyers can calculate the required tonnage by multiplying the theoretical weight per meter by the length of each pipe and the total number of pipes.

Total weight (kg) = Weight per meter × Pipe length × Quantity

Divide the result by 1,000 to convert kilograms into metric tons.

What Buyers Should Confirm

Before placing an order, confirm whether the supplier's quotation is based on theoretical weight or actual weighing. This distinction may affect invoicing and final payment. Buyers should also check the specified diameter, wall thickness, length and applicable tolerances.

Accurate tonnage estimation helps international buyers compare quotations, calculate shipping requirements and prepare a more reliable purchasing budget for Q345C welded steel pipes.
